Been working on this post for a couple weeks but forgot about it. Here it is!!!
-------
I am probably the 1% of the population that still buys cds. Some people collect stamps, coins, shoes (...this is me actually), bottle caps...etc...but I like to collect the old fashioned compact disc. I'd say majority of musicians nowadays still put out an album but I don't think their sales could compare to what iTunes could do for them since everyone and their grandma has an ipod/mp3 player of some sort.
Anyhow, I went to HMV Downtown last week with Michael and I got snubbed by an employee. We were discussing the closing of the store and I said how I think I'm probably the only one that still purchases cds..then he goes "Yeah..oh people in their 40s." Then it got me thinking...most people who DO buy from iTunes probably only buys a couple songs but never the full album. What I love about cracking open a new cd is being able to hear the artists work in its entirety. So that's where I come in and give a LEGIT review on an album. None of that "Oh yeah..his/her album was the best" when the person probably only heard 2 songs. I hate that...I really do.
So first things first, I have a procedure on how I listen to my cds. Once I buy an album the first thing I do when I get in the car is rip it open and pop it in. I listen to the WHOLE album (without skipping) TWICE before skipping or repeating any song I like or don't like. Then if I remember I look at the album jacket after. I find that I can get biased on how I feel about the songs if I read their dedications for some reason. I don't know what it is..that's just how my brain works. ---Another thing I do is I choose to listen to the for the first few times when I'm travelling on the road back home or to the office. Pausing frequently with a new album for me takes away the "connection" I have.
With that said..here starts my first cd review. Drake-Take Care. NEXT POST :)
